Set in the international world of classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and the first female director of a major German orchestra. However, forces that even the imperious maestro can’t control slowly chip away at Lydia’s elaborate facade, revealing the genius’s dirty secrets and the insidious, corrosive nature of power.

Tar has received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for two Academy Awards – Best Picture and Best Actress for Cate Blanchett, in what many are calling the best performance of her career. She is widely expected to win Best Actress. Tar  was named Best Picture of the Year by more critics than any other film released in 2022 — among others: Vanity Fair, The Guardian, Daily Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Screen Daily, Entertainment Weekly, and IndieWire’s annual poll of 156 critics worldwide.
