Ski – The Greatest Ski Tour of All Time
The hyper commercial world of professional freeride skiing collides with the purist misanthropic ways of the mountaineer, when the award-winning skier and filmmaker Nikolai Schirmer discovers that his reclusive childhood friend is embarking on a ski tour like nothing done before, and that he’s not planning to tell a soul.
Vegard Rye is training to climb and ski 27 mountains in Northern Norway in one go – the equivalent of running four marathons while climbing Mount Everest from sea level three times. To accomplish this inhuman feat, Vegard isolates himself from friends and family, lives in caves, and dedicates his entire existence to self-improvement.
Nikolai sets out to share Vegard’s story with the world, selling it as The Greatest Ski Tour of All Time, while simultaneously attempting to appropriate his snow warrior monk ways of dedicated training to lift his own skiing to new heights. Nikolai quickly learns it’s easier to sell a story than to live through it though. The movie also features Tahoe athlete Cody Townsend.
