Buried: The 1982 Alpine Meadows Avalanche
In March of 1982, a massive avalanche descended on Alpine Meadows Ski Resort that triggered a desperate five-day search for eight missing people. Buried chronicles the third deadliest avalanche in U.S. history, and the deadliest at a U.S. ski resort, the miraculous rescue efforts and the trauma that still haunt the survivors to this day.
The filmmakers – Steven Siig and Jared Drake – are long-time Tahoe locals and both live in Alpine Meadows, minutes from the ski resort. Siig is also one of the owners of the Art Haus, along with executive producer Mark Gogolewski. The documentary has won multiple film festival awards, including MountainFilm in Telluride, the Whistler Film Fest and BendFilm. Buried is one of the most popular films ever shown at the Art Haus, which is bringing the movie back in honor of its nationwide release by Greenwich Entertainment (Free Solo, The Rescue) on Sept. 23.
There will be a Q&A on Sept. 25, 7:30 pm show, with the filmmakers and special guests.
