The Ring

As part of Placer County's Chill Pass Program, all tickets are $5 for the TTUSD minimum day. A mysterious video tape is killing off anyone who watches it. Whenever the victim watches it, the phone rings, telling them they have only one week to live. A young reporter named Rachel is investigating these events, but after she and her small son watch the tape, it becomes a race against time to find out why the tape is killing everyone and how it could be stopped. SFTL's Way She Goes

That's right, that's the way she goes. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't – that's the way she goes. We were about to have the best season ever, then we were winch waterskiing on the golf course, then we were skiing neck deep powder in the backyard. Way she goes. The boys found themselves neck deep in it this year, riding the highs and lows of Tahoe and eventually fleeing for parts unknown: Japan, Canada, Alaska, Argentina, New Zealand. In the winter of 1976, a small plane carrying millions of dollars’ worth of marijuana crashed into a lake in the remote backcountry of Yosemite National Park. What followed was anything but ordinary. A group of ultra-athletic, daredevil young climbers from the legendary Camp 4 community set out across the High Sierra on a seemingly impossible winter trek to recover the cargo, before concealing and distributing it through a secret operation among the boulders beneath Yosemite’s towering cliffs.

Exactly 50 years later, the story has taken on a life of its own. Climbers, rangers, investigators and the families of the two pilots each carry a different version of events, shaped by loyalty, self-preservation and the passage of time. What began as a real and reckless tragedy has become one of climbing’s most enduring legends.

The Lake Tahoe Documentary Film Festival is hitting the road with the Best of Fest screenings! Catch six unforgettable short documentaries from the 2024 and 2025 film festival: ● A Little Story About Forever (10 minutes) Told from the perspectives of father Max and son Kip, this animated short explores the meaning of “forever” as they attempt to write a book together. As Max becomes overwhelmed by threats to the future, he reaches out to an unlikely hero, Mark Ruffalo, for help understanding the bigger picture. ● Funny Not Funny (14 minutes) Kirsten is a comedian with a terminal illness. It's not so funny, but she wants you to laugh about it. ● Big Bass (14 minutes) What does it mean to feel seen by others before you're ready to see yourself? A filmmaker investigates a surreal childhood memory involving a physical education teacher and a large plastic fish, uncovering a hidden ally in her journey toward recognizing herself as a queer woman. ● Planetwalker (31 minutes) - Filmmaker Q&A In 1971, John Francis — known around the world as the “Planetwalker”— witnessed an oil tanker collision in the San Francisco Bay. After seeing oiled birds along the shoreline, he gave up motorized transportation and began traveling solely by foot. Months later, he took avow of silence, believing that listening rather than adding to conflict was the path forward. For 17 years, he walked across the country and back. ● FREYA (4 minutes) Nine-year-old Freya shares how climbing helps her embrace discomfort, navigate fear, and build confidence while living with neurodiversity. ● Strong Grandma (15 minutes) Catherine is a 95-year old competitive deadlifter who is entering what she believes will be her final weightlifting competition. She got into weightlifting when she was 80 years old because she had osteopenia, and was surprised to find she had a knack for it. She began competing at 85 and has won every event she has entered, simply because there’s no one else in her age to compete against.

Join us for a night of women-centric short ski films!

You’ve heard of “Girl Dinner” – the perfectly chaotic spread of favorite snacks, little treats, and whatever sounds good at the moment. We wanted this film tour to carry that same energy: a lineup of short films with range. From big mountain skiing and storytelling to humor and human experiences, each film brings something different to the table–the kind of mix that leaves you fully satisfied by the end of the night.

Each event will showcase five films followed by a Q+A and poster signing with the athletes and filmmakers who brought the films to life.
